The MADE NORTH Gallery programme of exhibitions changes every 6-8 weeks. We curate between 6-8 shows per year, we focus on showing work of both emerging and established designer/makers. Each show can focus on an individual or group or responds to a theme or exploration of a process or discipline. Our programme is varied engaging with a wide range of disciplines including product design, furniture, jewellery, graphic design, ceramics and textiles.
About the Gallery
The MADE NORTH Gallery provides a creative platform that actively encourages and promotes understanding of contemporary northern design and craft. The gallery presents new and experimental work by established and emerging northern designer/makers.
The gallery introduces and promotes individual designer/makers and their work to a wider audience via a range of exhibitions and events. It represents a network of designer/makers who we collaborate with to showcase the finest quality contemporary designs, materials, skills and products the north of England has to offer. We carefully curate our selection and seek out designer/makers and objects that illustrate a sense of place, personality and provenance from our region and its accepted values of industry, honesty, integrity and innovation.
MADE NORTH Gallery is a central element in the MADE NORTH project that also delivers an annual design conference that brings together designers, design thinkers and manufacturers for a day of thought and debate provoking talks and networking. We also develop and programme Sheffield Design Week and also curate work for display in a range of venues.
We programme 6-8 exhibitions per year featuring a selection of work by some of most exciting designers and makers from the North of England.
Patrick Murphy, Director of MADE NORTH says: “The need for a gallery that promotes the north and its designer/makers is essential in today’s culture. A sense of place and provenance is becoming increasingly important in a world fast losing regional individuality in the face of globalisation. Instead of each city or region looking the same we want to celebrate difference; instead of high volume and low costs using oversees manufacturing, we want to see a return to responsible ‘local’ manufacturing and fair pricing that rewards the design/makers, encourages innovation and ideas and in turn supports the northern economy.”
There is a selection of great northern design available online at the MADE NORTH Store www.madenorthstore.co.uk
